The territorial jurisdiction of the Sakhalin Regional Court is the entire territory of the Sakhalin Region.
Sakhalin Oblast is the only region in the Russian Federation that is completely located on the islands.
The territory of the Sakhalin Region occupies 87.1 thousand square kilometers. The region includes the island of Sakhalin (about 78 thousand sq. Km.), On which there is a regional court and 15 district and city courts, two small islands adjacent to Sakhalin - Moneron and Seals, as well as 56 islands of the Kuril archipelago, on which 3 district courts are located.

Judicial collegiums
Judges of the judicial collegium:
• consider cases in the trial court, in on appeal and in cassation;
• summarize and analyze judicial practice and statistics;
• assist district (city) courts in the correct application of the law.
The panel includes judges who hear cases in both the second and first instance. In the court of first instance, civil cases are considered by the judge alone, criminal cases - consisting of: professional judge alone; judges and boards of 12 jurors; or colleges of three professional judges.
In a court of second instance, cases are examined collectively by three judges. Judges of the collegiums single-handedly resolve complaints and by way of supervision. Based on the results of the consideration of complaints, decisions are made: on the refusal to claim the case, on the refusal to refer the case to the merits of the supervisory review court, on referring the case to the supervisory review court.
